Notice of Lottery and Allocation Procedures for Slots at Washington Reagan National Airport

FAA-03-15745

August 4, 2003

Comments of The Air Carrier Association of America | Word

As noted in MWAA’s comments, the number of air carrier slots that are being utilized by regional jets has increased although slot totals have remained constant. That is inconsistent with the intent of the high density regulations and is an extremely inefficient use of a very limited asset. At the same time that U.S. Airways commuter partners are attempting to utilize the air carrier slots with small regional jets, they have lobbied Congress to increase the size of regional jets that can be utilized in DCA air carrier slots. As a result of U.S. Airways campaign, H.R. 2115, the “Flight 100.

The FAA should acknowledge the very clear intent of Congress and only allow carriers to participate in the slot lottery if have aircraft (with more than 76 seats) that can and will be utilized at DCA if they are awarded air carrier lottery slots.
