|
OST-2008-0226 - Exemption - Tampa/Dulles-Cancun July 16, 2008 Application for Exemption Authority jetBlue respectfully requests the Department of Transportation for exemption authority to allow jetBlue to provide carriage of persons, property and mail in combination service between: (1 ) Tampa International Airport and Cancun, Mexico; and (2) Washington Dulles International Airport and Cancun, Mexico. As jetBlue proposes to commence operations on these routes in mid-December 2008, jetBlue respectfully requests that the Department act on this application in an expeditious manner. The first exemption requested herein is for the transportation of persons, property and mail, in combination service, between: Tampa, Florida and Cancun, Mexico. jetBlue will operate these routes on a daily basis using Stage 3 compliant Embraer 190 aircraft. No U.S. carrier currently operates direct service in the Tampa-Cancun market. The second exemption requested herein is for the transportation of persons, property and mail, in combination service, between: Washington Dulles International Airport and Cancun, Mexico. jetBlue will operate these routes on Saturday only, using Stage 3 compliant AirBus 320 aircraft. July 28, 2008 Response of Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority in Support The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority responds in strong support of JetBlue's application for exemption authority to begin service between Washington Dulles International Airport and Cancun, Mexico. The Authority respectfully urges the Department ofTransportation to expeditiously approve the application in order that the proposed service may commence by mid-December 2008. The proposed service is clearly in the public interest, primarily because it will bring new competition and low-fare service to this busy leisure market which is currently quite limited in the services that are offered. Indeed, the Dulles-Cancun market is presently served by only a single weekly flight by Delta Airlines and a daily flight during most, but not all, months by United Airlines.
