United Air Lines, Inc. and Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd OST-2006-24167 - Statements of Authorization - US-China Codesharing March 10, 2006 Joint Application for Statements of Authorization United requests that the Department grant it a statement of authorization to permit United to display Shanghai Airlines' "FM" designator code on flights operated by United (1) between any point or points in the United States and a point or points in the People's Republic of China; and (2) between Shanghai Airlines' U.S. gateways and points in the U.S. Shanghai Airlines requests that the Department grant it a statement of authorization to permit Shanghai Airlines to display United's "UA" designator code on flights operated by Shanghai Airlines between United's Chinese gateways and points within the People's Republic of China. United currently holds exemption authority to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail on a code-share basis between any point or points in the U.S. and any point or points in the People's Republic of China. United also holds certificate authority for services between the U.S. and China. Concurrent with the filing of this Joint Application, Shanghai Airlines has filed an application for exemption authority permitting Shanghai Airlines to serve the U.S. pursuant to its code-share agreement with United. China. Further, FM and UA wish to improve the quality of the interline air transportation and cargo services they now offer so as to increase the use of those services by the traveling and shipping public. This Agreement establishes binding obligations between the Carriers, expresses the Carriers intentions, and sets forth a framework that provides the basis to accomplish these goals through subsequent agreements and activities.
