OST-2005-21252 - Exemption - Culiacan-Los Angeles/Mexico City-San Diego

May 13, 2005

Application for an Exemption from 49 S.S.C. 41301

By this application, Aeromexico seeks an exemption to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between (1) Culiacan and Los Angeles and (2) Mexico City and San Diego. Aeromexico proposes to offer nonstop service over each route four days per week with MD‑80/87 or other appropriate aircraft. This would provide first competitive nonstop service in the Culiacan‑Los Angeles market and first nonstop service in the Mexico City‑San Diego market, a market in which Aeromexico currently offers one stop service. Thus, the proposed services will generate significant benefits for the traveling and shipping public.

Application for Renewal of Exemption Authority

By Notice of Action dated May 27, 2005, the Department granted Aeromexico an exemption to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between (1) Culiacan and Los Angeles and (2) Mexico City and San Diego. The exemption is scheduled to expire on May 27, 2006. Aeromexico currently offers four weekly nonstop round trips between Mexico City and San Diego with MD-80 series aircraft; the service has been well-received and Aeromexico would like to continue that service in the future. Although Aeromexico currently is offering one stop service in the Culiacan-Los Angeles market, it would like to maintain the nonstop authority so that it would be able to upgrade its service to nonstop when traffic conditions warrant. Aeromexico seeks an extension for additional period of one year.
