Application for an Exemption

Engage in the scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from points behind Turkey, via Turkey and intermediate points, to a point or points in the United States and beyond. The requested authority is consistent with and encompassed by the open skies Air Transport Agreement between the United States and Turkey.

Turkish Airlines holds a foreign air carrier permit authorizing (a) scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between Turkey and New York and Chicago, via the intermediate points Amsterdam and Brussels, and (b) charter air transportation. See Order 1998-6-23. Turkish Airlines also holds exemption authority to conduct scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between a point or points in Turkey and a total of twenty points in the United States on a code-share basis on flights operated by American Airlines. Application for Renewal of Exemptions

On July 11, 2005, the Department granted THY’s authority in this docket to “engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from behind Turkey, via Turkey and intermediate points, to a point or points in the United States and beyond.” This authority will expire by its own terms on July 11, 2007.

Renewal of this exemption remains consistent with the US.-Turkey Open Skies Air Transport Agreement.
