United Air Lines, Inc. OST-04-17685 - Exemption - San Francisco-San Jose del Cabo/Puerto Vallarta/Cancun / Los Angeles-Zihuatanejo May 3, 2004 United seeks an exemption authorizing it to provide scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between San Francisco, California and San Jose del Cabo, Mexico; between San Francisco, California and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; between San Francisco, California and Cancun, Mexico; and between Los Angeles, California and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Mexico. For San Francisco-San Jose del Cabo and San Francisco-Puerto Vallarta, United initially proposes to operate daily service using its "Ted" product on a seasonal basis at San Francisco International Airport from December through April starting December 16, 2004. For San Francisco-Cancun United initially proposes to operate Saturday service on a seasonal basis at San Francisco International Airport from December through April starting December 18, 2004. For Los AngelesIxtapa/Zihuatanejo United initially proposes to operate Saturday service on a seasonal basis at Los Angeles International Airport from December through April starting December 18, 2004. From its San Francisco and Los Angeles hubs, United and United Express serve 56 and 50 non-stop destinations, respectively, offering connection opportunities to points throughout its system. United plans to operate the San Francisco‑San Jose del Cabo and San Francisco‑Puerto Vallarta services with A320 equipment with 156 seats, including 66 Economy Plus and 90 Economy seats, or similar aircraft. United plans to operate the San Francisco‑ Cancun service with B757 equipment with 182 seats, including 24 First Class, 50 Economy Plus and 108 Economy seats, or similar aircraft. United plans to operate the Los Angeles‑Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo service with A320 equipment with 138 seats, including 12 First Class, 36 Economy Plus and 90 Economy seats, or similar aircraft. Currently, only one U.S. carrier is designated and operating nonstop service on each of these city-pair routes. United intends to continue to operate seasonal nonstop service with its own aircraft in these markets.
