Mesa Airlines, Inc. OST-03-16741 - Exemption - Los Angeles-Mazatlan, Mexico December 17, 2003 Hereby applies for a two-year exemption from 49 U.S.C. § 41101 and any other provision of the Department's rules, authorizing Mesa to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail between Los Angeles, California and Mazatlan, Mexico, pursuant to a codeshare arrangement with America West Airlines, Inc. under which Mesa's flights in this market will carry America West's two letter designator code. Mesa requests that its exemption be issued as soon as possible so that Mesa can obtain the necessary approvals from the Government of Mexico and begin offering new service. Mesa intends to operate under a codeshare agreement with America West, using CRJ Model 900, 86-seat or 90-seat aircraft. US Airways and Mesa plan to provide seasonal service between LAX and MZT from June to September. Mesa has provided continuous service on this route, using its CRJ-900 aircraft, since 2004, with America West placing its designation code on combination flights pursuant to the parties' code share agreement. America West and Mesa hereby respectfully withdraw the Joint Application. The carriers have discontinued the Los Angeles-Mazatlan service, and have decided not to renew the authority at this time.
