OST-2003-16569 - US Airways - US-Singapore/Thailand - Codeshare with United

http://www.usairways.com/

US Airways, Inc.

OST-03-16570 - US-El Salvador/Guatemala

November 24, 2003

Application for an Exemption

Hereby applies for an exemption and, to the extent necessary, a designation in order to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail (1) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to a point or points in El Salvador and beyond, and (2) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to a point or points in Guatemala and beyond. US Airways also applies for route integration authority to combine this exemption authority with US Airways' other authorities.

US Airways plans to serve El Salvador and Guatemala from the United States pursuant to its code-share agreement with United Air Lines. US Airways requests expedited processing of this application so that it can begin marketing the codeshare services proposed herein as soon as possible. US Airways plans to code-share on scheduled United services between the United States, on the one hand, and El Salvador and Guatemala, on the other hand, specifically on United's Los Angeles-San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) and Los Angeles-Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA) services.

Notice of Action Taken

Scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail (1) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to a point or points in El Salvador and beyond, and (2) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to a point or points in Guatemala and beyond. US Airways also requests the right to integrate this authority with its other authorities. US Airways initially intends to operate this service pursuant to a code-share agreement with United Air Lines but seeks broad authority to operate its own flights as well as code-sharing as opportunities present themselves.

Initially US Airways plans to code-share on the scheduled services of United on United's Los Angeles-San Salvador, El Salvador and Los Angeles-Guatemala City, Guatemala services.

OST-2003-16570 - Exemption - US-El Salvador/Guatemala

Application for Renewal of an Exemption

Engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail (1) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to any point or points in El Salvador and beyond, and (2) from a point or points in the United States via intermediate points to any point or points in Guatemala and beyond. The Department further granted it corresponding route integration authority.

US Airways currently provides scheduled air service between the United States and Guatemala. Although US Airways does not currently serve the U.S.-El Salvador market, it has previously, and seeks the flexibility to resume doing so if future conditions should warrant. Granting this renewal would not preclude other carriers from serving the U.S-El Salvador market as the two countries maintain an "open skies" relationship.
