Aerovias Nacionales de Columbia, S.A. (AVIANCA) and Aerolineas Centrales de Colombia, S.A. (ACES)

The carriers currently hold and use authority to codeshare between Miami and both Barranquilla and Bogota. (Department Action on Application in Docket OST-2002-12031, April 12, 2002). That authorization permits AVIANCA, as the operating carrier, to carry ACES' code. However, due to reduction in traffic demand on the Barranquilla-Miami route, AVIANCA's current operation with B-757 aircraft provides excess capacity. Therefore, the carriers plan to substitute the operation of a smaller ACES A-320 aircraft to more efficiently serve the market. In short, the two carriers simply will switch their roles as operating and marketing carriers. The service will operate on a Miami-Barranquilla-Bogota routing.
