Aloha Airlines, Inc.

OST-2002-12077 - Exemption - US-Canada April 8, 2002 Application for Exemption U.S.- Canada
    Service List

Aloha intends to operate daily scheduled flights in the Honolulu Vancouver market beginning June 15, 2002. All operations will be conducted with B737-700 aircraft. Aloha requests an exemption permitting it to operate scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between any point in the United States and any point in Canada. Aloha's proposed services represent the only U.S. carrier operated service in the Honolulu-Vancouver market, and will provide a competitive alternative to those offered currently by Air Canada, Air Pacific and, through their codeshare with Air Canada, Air New Zealand and United.' Aloha has successfully operated scheduled service among various island points within Hawaii, serves Las Vegas, Oakland and Los Angeles (John Wayne) and operates to foreign points in the South Pacific. Aloha's extended-range combination services to U.S. mainland and Pacific points outside the Hawaiian Islands have enabled it to diversify and broaden its revenue base, while at the same time maximizing use of its fleet. The efficient use of its fleet, in turn, has benefited its inter-island operations.

Application for Renewal of Exemption

Aloha’s services between Honolulu and Vancouver remain the only U.S.-carrier operated service in that market and will continue to provide a competitive alternative to services offered by Air Canada, Air Pacific and, through their codeshare with Air Canada, Air New Zealand and United. Aloha continues to successfully operate scheduled service among various island points within Hawaii and to foreign points in the South Pacific. Aloha also serves the U.S. mainland, with flights to Burbank, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (John Wayne), Oakland, Phoenix, Reno, and Sacramento. Aloha’s extended-range combination services to U.S. mainland and Pacific points outside the Hawaiian Islands have enabled it to diversify and broaden its revenue base, while at the same time maximizing use of its fleet. The efficient use of its fleet, in turn, has benefited its interisland operations. These interisland operations will continue to make up Aloha’s core market.

Application for Renewal of Exemption

Aloha hereby requests renewal of its exemption from 49 U.S.C. §41101, and from any regulations of the Department, to the extent necessary, to permit Aloha to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between a point or points in the United States and a point or point in Canada. Aloha requests that this exemption be renewed for at least a two-year period on its existing terms and conditions.

Although Aloha previously served Vancouver from Honolulu, Aloha does not currently conduct operations to Canada. Aloha wishes to renew its exemption to serve Canada, however, so that it may resume service as soon as warranted by commercial conditions.

Aloha will resume operations to Canada when warranted by commercial conditions and wishes to maintain this exemption in effect so that service can be restarted without delay.
