United Air Lines, Inc.

OST-01-9983 June 21, 2001 Application for Statement of Authorization Chicago/Washington DC- Mexico City
    Service List

bmi british midland plans to offer new service between points in the United Kingdom and Mexico City via Chicago and Washington, D.C. Passengers on bmi british midland's flights from Manchester, England will connect to United's nonstop flights between Chicago and Washington, D.C. (Dulles), on the one hand, and Mexico City, on the other hand. United will display bmi british midland's "BD" designator code on the flights, enabling bmi british midland to offer U.K.-Mexico City online connecting service.

bmi british midland's code will be displayed on United's Chicago-Mexico City and Washington-Mexico City flights only on a blind-sector basis for bmi british midland traffic moving between the United Kingdom and Mexico City. bmi british midland will not sell service under its own designator code to local Chicago/Washington Mexico City traffic.

Approval of United's application for statement of authorization will serve the public interest. bmi british midland's code-share service will increase global competition for traffic between the United Kingdom and Mexico and will allow a U.S. carrier, United, to participate in that competition. Aeromexico already code shares to London via a connection with Air France in Paris; British Airways serves the Mexico City-London market on a nonstop basis; and United code shares with Mexicana on United's Chicago-London service. Approval of the United/bmi british midland code share will allow this alliance to compete for traffic in the United Kingdom-Mexico market. bmi british midland's code-share traffic also will make an important contribution to United's competitiveness between the U.S. and Mexico by feeding additional passengers to United's Chicago-Mexico City and Washington-Mexico City flights.
