Re: Letter Changing the Registered Name
This letter is submitted in accordance with the requirements of 14 CFR 215.4 to register the change of name of "Lan Chile S.A." to "Lan Airlines S.A."
Lan Chile S.A. is a Chilean passenger and cargo airline holding a foreign air carrier permit pursuant to Order 87-8-55 and a Notice of Action Taken pursuant to Docket OST 99-6493 allowing it to engage in scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from points behind Chile via Chile and intermediate points to a point or points in the United States and beyond as well as the scheduled foreign air transportation of property and mail between the United States and any point or points. Lan Chile S.A. is not seeking a reissuance of its underlying certificate or foreign air carrier permit under the new corporate name, Lan Airlines S.A.

Application for Renewal of Exemption
Pursuant to 49 U.S.C. 40109 and 14 C.F.R. Part 302, LAN AIRLINES S.A. hereby applies for renewal of its exemption from 49 u.S.C. 41301 to engage in:
(a) the scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from points behind Chile via Chile and intermediate points to a point or points in the United States and beyond; and
(b) the scheduled foreign air transportation of property and mail between the United States and any point or points. The requested authority is consistent with and encompassed by the Open Skies Air Transport Agreement between the United States and Chile.
Lan requests that the authority sought herein remain in effect for a period of not less than two years. Lan will be finalizing its application to amend its foreign air carrier permit to encompass all of the rights available to Chilean carriers under the Open Skies Air Transport Agreement.

At the time of our last action the applicant was still operating under the name “Lan Chile S. A,” By letter dated September 23, 2004, the Department acknowledged the carrier’s change of name to Lan Airlines S.A.

Application for Renewal of Exemption
LAN hereby applies for renewal of its exemption from 49 U.S.C. § 41301 to engage in: (a) the scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail from points behind Chile via Chile and intermediate points to a point or points in the United States and beyond; and (b) the scheduled foreign air transportation of property and mail between the United States and any point or points.
On April 10, 2006, the Department of Transportation issued a renewal of the Notice of Action under OST-1999-6493 , approving this exemption authority. This exemption authority was issued for two years and is currently set to expire on April 10, 2008.
