United hereby applies for an amendment to its Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for Route 624 authorizing United to provide scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between any point or points in the United States, directly and via any intermediate point or points, and any point or points in Italy, and beyond Italy to any point or points in third countries. United also requests authority to integrate services under this certificate with United’s other existing route authorizations consistent with all applicable international agreements. United will accept the Department’s standard route integration condition as reflected in United’s amended Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for Route 130 The amended certificate authority requested herein will enable United to take advantage of new opportunities available to U.S. carriers under the U.S.-Italy bilateral agreement. United is currently providing combination service with its own equipment between Washington, D.C. and Milan. With the flexibility permitted by broad certificate authority, United will begin to explore options for increasing United’s on-line service to Italy, both in its own aircraft and through additional code-share service with its European partners such as Lufthansa, British Midland and SAS.
