Re:  Place Taos on DOT List of Eligible Points for EAS Funding

Please consider this letter as a formal request to initiate proceedings to place Taos, New Mexico on the DOT list of eligible points for Essential Air Service Funding. Governor Johnson has signed Senate Bill 566, which will enhance our community's ability to provide the fifty/ fifty match to obtain funding under the current federal law. Our Communities of Taos, Angel Fire, and Red River New Mexico badly need commuter air service to enhance economic development in our area. We have identified a local carrier Rio Grande Air (GRN) which is very interested in working with the community to provide long term service to the area. The nearest Airport to our area is in Sante Fe and is some 75 miles travel from our community and takes 1.5 hours to drive on a two lane highway through a narrow canyon.
