By: Douglas Voss, Pres. and CEO, 712.262.1000
| Order 98-10-1 OST-98-4270 |
Issued and Served October 1, 1998 | Great Lakes Aviation Suspension of Air Service |
On July 30, 1998, Great Lakes filed a 90-day notice of its intent to suspend its subsidy free service at Mason City, Iowa, effective October 29, 1998. In support of its request to suspend service, Great Lakes states that it cannot increase its Mason City-O'Hare service in view of the slot controls at O'Hare and, as a consequence, its current service-three one-stop round trips a day with 19-seat aircraft--cannot compete effectively withMesaba's abundant service to Minneapolis/St. Paul with larger aircraft. Mesabacurrently provides six round trips a day in the Mason City-Minneapolis market with 35 seat Saab 340 aircraft.
