Hereby seeks renewal of an exemption from 49 U.S.C. § 41301, granted on December 8, 1997, in order that SAA may continue to provide scheduled foreign air transportation of passengers, property and mail between Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, on the one hand, and Tampa, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Raleigh-Durham, New Orleans, Cleveland, San Diego, Columbus, Jacksonville, San Juan, and Buffalo, on the other. In addition, SAA has authority to operate similar code-share service to Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, D.C., Houston, Orlando, San Francisco, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Chicago, and Atlanta.
SAA also respectfully requests that the Department authorize the substitution of Denver in place of Columbus as a named point for code-share service under the authority granted to SAA in Docket OST-97-3099. SAA's code-share partner, American Airlines, has agreed to operate such service in conjunction with SM. On October 29,1997, pursuant to the U.S. - South Africa Air Transport Agreement, the South African Government forwarded to the U.S. Government a diplomatic note selecting Columbus as a point to be served on a code-share basis.
