Agreements Adopted by the Traffic Conferences of the International Air Transport Association

August 7, 1997

Counsel: IATA, David O’Connor, 202-624-2977

Agreement Adopted by the Tariff Coordinating Conferences of the International Air Transport Association

Order 97-9-9 | OST-97-2780 | Issued September 9, 1997 | Served September 15, 1997

Order

The agreement proposes an increase, generally ten percent, in fares from South Africa to most points throughout the world (except Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland) pursuant to an order of the South African government. In addition, it rescinds a three percent increase in discount (special) fares from South Africa to North Atlantic points (including U.S. points) that was adopted by IATA but disapproved by the South African government. We have decided to approve the agreement, subject to conditions. Based on our review of the information submitted and other relevant material, we conclude that the agreement, as conditioned below, will not result in fares that are unlawful or injurious to competition in the markets at issue.
