American Airlines, Inc. hereby applies for renewal of its exemption, most recently renewed by Order 96-7-43, July 30, 1996, authorizing scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail between Chicago, Illinois and Budapest, Hungary, on a nonstop basis and on a one-stop basis, via the intermediate points Frankfurt, Germany; Zurich, Switzerland; or Vienna, Austria.

Due to the necessity to deploy aircraft in other markets, American did not institute service to Budapest as it had previously planned. American is presently considering whether to implement service in 1999. To the extent required, American requests a waiver as to the filing of illustrative data for this application.
