OST-1996-1318 - Route 645 - Houston-Barranquilla/Bogota/Cali via San Jose, Costa Rica
June 9, 2006
Continental applies for renewal of its Route 645 certificate authorizing Continental to provide scheduled air transportation of persons, property and mail between Houston and the coterminal points Barranquilla, Bogota and Cali, Colombia, via the intermediate point San Jose, Costa Rica. Continental asks that its Route 645 certificate authority be renewed for a period of no less than five years.
Since Continental has been awarded a blanket route integration certificate by Order 2006-1-1, it does not require renewal of its authority to combine services on Route 645 with other Continental services authorized by certificate and exemption.
Continental currently operates daily nonstop service between Houston and both Bogota and Cali using B-737 aircraft, and the same considerations that led the Department to award and renew this authority remain valid today and justify renewal of the authority. Continental operates the only nonstop service between Houston and Bogota, Cali and San Jose, and renewal of Continental's Route 645 certificate authority will ensure continuation of the airline and inter-gateway competition Continental has introduced on these routes.
