Application for Renewal of Exemption Authority - Guaymas-Phoenix

Aeromexico seeks to continue to engage in foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between Guaymas, Mexico, and Phoenix, Arizona. Aeromexico currently provides daily DC-9S nonstop service in the market and it desires to continue to provide such service in the future. This nonstop service, which is the only service in the market, clearly has generated substantial service benefits of the traveling public, and continuation of the service clearly is in the public interest.

By this application, Aeromexico seeks renewal of its exemption authority to provide service between Guaymas, Mexico, and Phoenix, Arizona, last renewed by Notice of Action Taken, dated November 2, 2000. Aeromexico currently provides twice weekly MD-80 nonstop roundtrip service in the market and it desires to continue to provide such service in the future.  This nonstop service clearly has generated service benefits for the traveling public, and continuation of the service clearly is in the public interest. In addition, Aeromexico carries the code of Delta Air Lines, Inc., in this market, which enables Delta to offer competitive service.

By Notice of Action Taken, dated November 14, 2001, the Department renewed the exemption authority of Aerovias de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. to engage in foreign air transportation between Guaymas, Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona. The authority currently expires on November 14, 2002. This is to advise you that Aeromexico does not intend to seek further renewal of the authority.
