American Airlines, Inc.

American uses its authority in segment 1 of Route 602 to serve the Boston-London, Chicago-London, Los Angeles-London, Chicago-Paris, and Los Angeles-Paris markets, as well as to serve a number of other markets under various codesharing arrangements with foreign carriers. American presently operates the following pattern of service in the named U.S.-London' city-pairs (OAG, December 2000) :

• Boston-London. 2 daily roundtrips with A300 aircraft (10F/34C/148Y).
• Chicago-London. 3 daily roundtrips with B777 aircraft (16F/56C/163Y).
• Los Angeles-London. 1 daily roundtrip with B763 aircraft (16F/56C/163Y).

American uses its authority in segment 2 to serve the New York-London market. American presently operates the following pattern of service between New York and London:

• New York-London. 7 daily roundtrips (6 at JFK, 1 at EWR) with a mix of the following aircraft: B762 (8F/30C/126Y), B763 (9F/24C/156Y),' A300 (9F/34C/148Y), and B777 (16F/56C/ 163Y).
• American uses its Istanbul/Ankara authority in segment 3 under a codesharing arrangement with Turkish Airlines, approved by Department Action in OST-00-7151 on July 20, 2000.

In our captioned renewal application for Route 602, submitted on December 11, 2000, the procedural notice on the cover page should be changed to read as follows:

"NOTICE: American requests that this application be processed by expedited show-cause procedures under 14 CFR 302.207. Answers supporting or opposing this application are due on January 2, 2001.

Supplement to Application for Renewal of Certificate for Route 602 in Response to Notice on Streamlining Regulatory Procedures - Bookmarked

American Airlines, Inc., in response to the Department's notice of August 23, 2005 on streamlining regulatory procedures for licensing U.S. and foreign air carriers (OST 2005-22228), hereby supplements its application for renewal of certificate for Route 602, submitted on December 11, 2000, in order to seek parallel certificate authority for American's pending and existing exemptions to provide scheduled foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail, as well as to request certificate authority in open skies markets which American has not previously sought.

Supplement No. 2

On March 22, 2007, the Council of European Transport Ministers unanimously ratified an historic open skies agreement between the United States and the European Union. That agreement is expected to take full effect on March 30, 2008, the beginning of the Summer 2008 traffic season.

Accordingly, American hereby files Supplement No. 2 to the captioned application so as to request certificate authority in additional open skies markets covered by the U.S.-EU open skies agreement as to which American does not already hold authority or which are not already listed in Attachment 3 initially submitted on August 26, 2005. We also take this opportunity to add eight new non-EU open skies markets that have been negotiated since August 2005. These additional open skies markets are listed in Attachment 3 appended hereto.

In the event the Department determines to proceed by exemption authority prior to awarding certificate authority, the Department should grant exemption authority to American for all open skies markets listed in initial Attachment 3 and in Attachment 3.

By this order we grant American Airlines, Inc. certificate authority to provide combination service to all of our foreign aviation partners that have entered into an open-skies agreement with the United States where that agreement is being applied. For administrative convenience purposes, the term “open-skies partners” also refers to foreign aviation partners that are parties to the Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation.

On our own initiative, we have also decided to grant to American certificate authority to serve Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Cook Islands, New Zealand, Samoa, Singapore, and Tonga, each a signatory to the Multilateral Agreement on the Liberalization of International Air Transportation.  We defer action on the remainder of American’s requests and will handle them separately. Our action here establishes a new route certificate, in the form attached at Appendix B.
