Application of American Airlines for Amended Statement of Authorization

Hereby applies to amend its statement of authorization, initially granted by Order 98-12-6, December 9, 1998, so as to allow display of the designator code of Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana, S.A. on flights operated by American or its affiliates American Eagle Airlines, Inc. or Executive Airlines, Inc. d/b/a American Eagle between New York and San Juan and between Miami and San Juan, connecting to flights operated by American or Iberia between the United States and Spain. American and Iberia propose to implement such service as soon as all necessary regulatory approvals have been granted.

Joint Application for Blanket Codesharing Authorizations

American Airlines, Inc. (and its affiliates American Eagle Airlines, Inc. and Executive Airlines, Inc. d/b/a American Eagle) and Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana, S.A. hereby jointly apply under 14 CFR Part 212 for blanket statements of authorization, subject to 30-day notice, in order to engage in reciprocal codeshare services under the U.S.-EU open skies agreement, which takes effect on March 30, 2008.

The authority requested will replace the limited codeshare rights now held by American and Iberia that were initially granted by Notice of Action Taken (undocketed), August 6, 1998, under the bilateral U.S.-Spain Air Transport Agreement. The American-Iberia codeshare agreement is on file in that proceeding.

American requests a statement of authorization to display's 18* designator code in conjunction with foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail on flights operated by American or its affiliates between (1) points in the United States; (2) points in the United States and points in Spain (either nonstop or via intermediate points in third countries); (3) points in the United States and points in third countries: and (4) points in Spain and points in third countries.

Iberia requests a statement of authorization to display American's AA* designator code in conjunction with foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail on flights operated by Iberia between (1) points in Spain; (2) points in Spain and points in the United States (either nonstop or via intermediate points in third countries); (3) points in Spain and points in third countries; and (4) points in the United States and points in third countries.

Effective March 30, 2008, American will hold all necessary underlying route authority on its open skies certificate for Route 835, issued by Order 2007-4-2, April 1, 2007. Iberia is contemporaneously herewith submitting an application for exemption authority and for an amended foreign air carrier permit reflecting open skies effective March 30, 2008. Iberia will similarly hold all necessary underlying route authority under such open skies exemption authority and amended foreign air carrier permit.

Department Action on Application

(A) American requests a statement of authorization to display Iberia's IB* designator code in conjunction with foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail on flights operated by American or its affiliates between (1) points in the United States; (2) points in the United States and points in Spain (either nonstop or via intermediate points in third countries); (3) points in the United States and points in third countries; and (4) points in Spain and points in third countries.

(B) Iberia requests a statement of authorization to display American's AA* designator code in conjunction with foreign air transportation of persons, property, and mail on flights operated by Iberia between (1) points in Spain; (2) points in Spain and points in the United States (either nonstop or via intermediate points in third countries); (3) points in Spain and points in third countries; and (4) points in the United States and points in third countries.

We may amend, modify, or revoke the authority granted at any time without hearing at our discretion. The joint applicants include American affiliates American Eagle Airlines, Inc. and Executive Airlines, Inc. d/b/a American Eagle.
