Answer of the Dallas/Fort Worth
parties in Support of Application
Grant of DFW-Caracas authority would also promote intergateway competition and help close the gap between DFW and Houston as competitive mid-America gateways to Latin America. DFW is currently underserved to Latin America and has fallen behind Houston Intercontinental as a Latin America gateway. Overall Houston has nonstop service to 24 Latin America cities compared to 13 for DFW; significantly, to Mexico and Central America -- the countries in the Caribbean Basin --, Houston has nonstop service to 21 cities compared to only 10 for DFW. DFW-Caracas authority will help make the DFW gateway more competitive.

Order 97-5-25 | OST-97-2505 & OST-97-2518 R-1 through R-2 | Posted May 29, 1997 | Served June 4, 1997
The agreement in Docket OST-97-2505 makes it clear that special fare add-on amounts agreed for Thailand apply to travel throughout all of TC3 (Asia/Australasia/Pacific Islands) rather than just Korea, New Zealand and the Philippines. The agreement in Docket OST-97-2518 denominates all fares, rates and related charges from Guinea-Bissau in terms of the CFA franc as a result of its recent membership in the CFA zone and the resultant change in its currency from the peso to the CFA franc.
