Operating Limitations at Chicago O'Hare International Airport
August 1, 2005 Comments of Northwest Airlines Northwest supports the proposed extension of the effectiveness of the August 2004 Order through April 1, 2006. The FAA is correct in its understanding that scheduled carriers need a 90- to 120-day lead time to finalize their Winter 2005/2006 schedules, and that advance extension of the August 2004 Order's effectiveness through the upcoming Winter scheduling season will greatly facilitate the carriers' planning processes. August 1, 2005 American Airlines, Inc. files these comments in response to the Order to Show Cause dated July 18, 2005 in the above-captioned docket. As American has previously stated, we "strongly support the FAA's efforts to reduce delays and congestion at O'Hare" (5/24/05 AA Comments, FAA-2004-20704, p. 1). American also supports the FAA's decision to "extend the duration of the August 2004" delay reduction order (p. 1). This decision will allow the FAA to carefully evaluate the comments filed in response to its "proposed rule that would limit the number of scheduled operations at O'Hare" (p. 2). American reiterates its objection to the provisions in the proposed rule that would use "Vision 100 and its delay reduction programs . . . as a tool for re-regulating the industry by picking winners and losers in the market" (5/25/05 AA Comments, FAA-2004-20704, p. 17). That proposed rule should be replaced with a fair and equitable method of limiting congestion at O'Hare. Counsel: American, Carl Nelson, 202-496-5647, carl.nelson@aa.com |
