Essential Air Service at Salem, Oregon July 14, 2008 Ninety-Day Notice of SkyWest Airlines of Termination of Service SkyWest Airlines, Inc. hereby gives notice of its intent to discontinue its unsubsidized service between Salem, Oregon, and Salt Lake City, Utah, after October 12, 2008. SkyWest’s service is operated as “Delta Connection” service under agreements with Delta Air Lines, Inc. In its current schedules for June 2008, Delta offers one daily and a second less-than-daily SkyWest-operated round trips between Salem and Salt Lake City using 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet 200 aircraft. No other carrier currently offers scheduled service to Salem. Thus, the termination of the SkyWest service will reduce air transportation at Salem to a level below the essential air service determination set forth in Order 1984-7-38. Delta and SkyWest would strongly prefer to continue providing scheduled air service to Salem. Unfortunately, the skyrocketing cost of jet fuel has made it impossible for the carriers to continue to operate this service as an economic matter. SkyWest and Delta therefore regret that they must cancel all service they currently provide to Salem effective no later than October 12, 2008. Counsel: Delta, Scott, McClain, 404-773-6514 |
