Horizon Air OST-2005-23101 - Intent to Discontinue Service Between Pocatello-Boise, Idaho
November 18, 2005 Notice of Intent to Discontinue Service Effective November 18, 2005, Horizon Air is formally giving the Department of Transportation 90-day notice of our intent to discontinue all flight services between Pocatello, Idaho and Boise, Idaho. Understanding this 90-day notice requirement, we are requesting permission to instead terminate service on January 7, 2006. In place of Horizon's current service, Big Sky Airlines of Billings, Montana has announced they will begin operating nonstop service three times daily between Pocatello and Boise beginning January 8, 2006. Horizon currently offers three daily flights between Pocatello and Boise, however, two of the flights make a stop in Idaho Falls. With Big Sky's participation, we anticipate no disruption in daily service after January 7, 2006. Existing passenger reservations will be re-accommdated from AS-coded Horizon Air flights to AS-coded Big Sky flights. By: Horizon, Patrick Zachwieja
November 18, 2005 Big Sky Airlines plans to begin service on January 8, 2006 between Pocatello, Idaho and Boise, Idaho. Horizon Air has announced that they will be discontinuing their service between these same markets after January 7, 2006. We are very enthusiastic about our new service to Pocatello in which all flights will now be non-stop to and from Boise. Our flight schedule will be very similar to Horizon’s to help insure a seamless transition for the customers. Pocatello will not have any interruption of service with this carrier transition. Proposed Schedules:
Big Sky will offer its service utilizing the Beechcraft 1900D aircraft, which offers a stand-up cabin for customer comfort. This aircraft has proven itself to be a very reliable and customer friendly aircraft. We will also offer our EASYFARES in this market. We have found that this fare structure encourages new ridership. By: Big Sky, Fred deLeeuw, 406-247-3931 December 2, 2005 Re: Letter from City of Pocatello The City of Pocatello is very excited at the opportunity to have Big Sky Airlines providing air service to our businesses and citizens. We are aware of their joint agreement with Horizon Airlines to begin operating on the day Horizon ceases service in January. Earlier this week, I had a very positive meeting with Big Sky officials Fred deLeeuw, President, and Craig Denney. Executive Vice President. I am pleased at the understanding they have of our flight needs, Responsive air service is critical to Pocatello's economic development efforts, as well as to our citizens. By: Roger Chase, Mayor Order 2005-12-7 Issued December 13, 2005 | Served December 16, 2005 Order Allowing Suspension of Service By this order, the Department is allowing Horizon Air to suspend its unsubsidized service at Pocatello, Idaho, effective on the date that Big Sky Airlines inaugurates replacement service, which we expect to be on or about January 7, 2006. In reaching this decision, we have carefully reviewed the circumstances. Horizon and Big Sky have agreed on a plan that will ensure the community receives seamless service. Big Sky will operate its flights in conjunction with its code-share partners, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, America West/US Airways, and Northwest Airlines allowing passengers seamless connections at Boise to a variety of destinations.
