Euroatlantic intends to focus its attention initially on the group movement of passengers between points in Portugal and points in the U.S., although it looks forward to responding to the demand for fifth freedom capacity that may arise. It also anticipates that it will serve groups of passengers moving between points in Portugal and points beyond Miami, principally island nations in the Caribbean Sea. To the extent practicable, Euroatlantic would want to be able to transport these passengers not moving in foreign air transportation, with other passengers moving in foreign air transportation on the same aircraft, as authorized by the U.S.-Portugal Open Skies Agreement.
Euroatlantic is a corporation organized under the laws of Portugal in 1993. Twenty-five percent of its stock is held by its Chairman, Tomaz Metello, who is a Portuguese citizen. Another ten percent is owned by Danielle Metello, Mr. Metello's wife, who is a citizen of France. The remaining sixty-five percent of Euroatlantic's stock is held by two corporations organized in Luxembourg under European Union regulations and protocols. Mr. Metello owns all the stock of these two corporations.
Euroatlantic intends to institute its service to and from the United States with Lockheed L-1011 aircraft presently in its fleet or other aircraft to be acquired by it.
Euroatlantic anticipates instituting service to Miami from Lisbon, Portugal. Euroatlantic hopes to begin service in the market with a maximum of one flight each week for a limited period during the fall of 2000. It expects that it will combine its Portugal-U.S. traffic with traffic moving beyond the U.S. to points in the Caribbean and perhaps to points in Central and South America. Euroatlantic's operations will be expanded to respond to market demand, and its service will be adjusted to accommodate changes in seasonal demand. Euroatlantic also intends to make itself available to perform sub-service operations to and from points in the United States for other carriers which require additional capacity on an ad hoc basis.
