American Airlines, Inc.

OST-00-7369 May 15, 2000 Emergency Application of American Airlines for Reinstatement of Codeshare Authorization U.S. Code-Sharing w/Polskie Linie Lotnicze Lot
Attachment:  OIA Application 98-121 dated 11/30/98; Authorization
    Service List

Application of American Airlines, Inc., applies for emergency reinstatement of its statement of authorization to place the "LO" designator code of Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT S.A. on flights operated by American or American Eagle beyond New York and Chicago to the following nine U.S. points: Boston, Cleveland, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Syracuse, and Washington/Baltimore. The attached statement of authorization also permits display of the "AA" designator code on flights operated by LOT between New York/Chicago and Warsaw, and display of the "LOT' code on flights operated by American beyond New York and Chicago to Los Angeles and Miami. Authorization for those services did not lapse, since LOT holds permit authority to serve New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami, and American holds exemption authority to serve between New York/Chicago and Warsaw (Notice of Action Taken, OST-98-3375, March 29, 2000).

OST-00-7369 Date of Action May 16, 2000
Authority Expires May 22, 2000
Department Action on Application Codeshare with LOT

We granted American's application to the extent necessary to permit American to conduct previously authorized code-share services between New York and Chicago, on the one hand, and Boston, Cleveland, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco, Seattle, Syracuse, and Washington/ Baltimore, on the other, for the carriage of LOT's Poland-U.S. traffic. We have limited our grant through May 22, 2000. We are seriously concerned that Polish authorities have failed to award Tradewinds the necessary authority to operate the charter program to which it is entitled under our bilateral agreement with Poland. We find our limited grant here consistent with the public interest, taking into account the need to avoid disruption of an ongoing operation and hardship to the traveling public. However, absent resolution of the Tradewinds issue, American should have no expectation that the authority will continue beyond the date specified above

American Airlines, Inc. hereby applies to amend its statements of authorization under 14 CFR Part 212 to engage in codesharing services with the foreign air carriers listed in the above caption' so as explicitly to include affiliates TWA Airlines LLC, American Eagle Airlines, Inc., and Executive Airlines, Inc. d/b/a American Eagle. This amendment would allow each affiliate to display the respective foreign carrier designator code on authorized domestic and transborder code-share routes' where service is operated by the affiliate. Effective December 2, 2001, TWA Airlines LLC will hold itself out to the traveling public as American Airlines. As of that date, the two-letter "TW" designator code will no longer be displayed, and all flights operated by TWA will be shown as "AA*" in computer reservations systems.
